Outfield · 2023 – present

Territory

Users draw regions on a map, group the contacts inside, and start automations such as assigning a sales rep. Built in Ruby on Rails.

The problem

Outfield users needed to group their contacts by area and act on a whole area at once. For example, they wanted to give every contact in a region the same sales rep.

What I built

I led Territory from start to end. It started as a new Ruby on Rails project. I built all of its REST APIs and tested both the API and the database endpoints.

I added the Google Maps API, so users draw regions on a map inside the app. The contacts in a region become a group. The group can start automations, such as assigning a sales rep to everyone in the area.

Decisions

A new Ruby on Rails project. Territory started from an empty Rails codebase. [TODO: why Rails, and why a new codebase?]

Draw on a real map. Users draw a region on a Google Map instead of picking contacts from a list. [TODO: why Google Maps, and why drawing instead of filters?]

Result

Territory shipped as part of the paid subscription plan. [TODO: a result you can share, for example the number of users or regions]
